Quantity Discounts / Price Tiers
An inventory item's price can be set to automatically discount when certain quantity thresholds are crossed. For example, the price of a single can of food might be $3.00, but when bought six at a time, the price per can might be discounted to $2.75.
Base Item and Base Quantity
Discount tiers depend on an item's base price and base quantity. The base price and base quantity values are set in the profile section of the inventory item and can be updated by clicking on "edit item" in the navigation bar. These values are used as the defaults for new medical records, estimates, and invoices. Once these values are set, an unlimited number of discount tiers can be set up.
To set up price tiers:
1. Navigate to the applicable inventory item
2. Click on "price tiers" and select the option to add a 'New Tier'
3. Complete the form that appears by selecting the threshold at which the discount applies and the discount amount (as a percent off the base price)
4. Click "Save + Done" to save the current tier and return to the inventory profile, or "Save + Add New" to save the current tier and add a new tier
For the above example, this particular item's base quantity is 1 Tablet, thus sold as 1 tablet. Based on the example above, 1-10 tablets will be sold with the 'Base Price' that is listed in the inventory item with no discount. 11 - 20 tablets will receive 5% off of the client's purchase. 21 - 30 tablets will receive 10% off the purchase. If you sell an item individually but offer a discount if a bottle is sold, using price tiers will help set that up. For example, if a bottle has 30 tablets in it and the clinic offers a discount for buying an entire bottle, a Max Quantity of 29 will be set with a 0% Discount. Then, a 30 Max Quantity will be set, with the applicable discount amount. The price tiers are always set with a % discount. If the clinic's discount is a dollar amount, the calculation will have to be done for how much percentage off will get the amount the clinic needs.
Using Discount Tiers
Once the tiers are set up, the item's price will automatically be calculated based on the quantity specified for the item in the invoice. When the quantity crosses a particular threshold, that item's price will automatically be recalculated to reflect the discount that applies.
*Please note that discount tier calculations will be ignored if you manually change the item's price when editing the invoice.
